Police arrested two people for raping a readymade garments (RMG) worker at Central Railway Building (CRB) area in Chittagong city on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are Md Ismail (23) and Md Mamun (25) of the area, said police sources.
Meanwhile, the two were sent to jail as a Chittagong court, where they were produced, the next working-day was fixed for the hearing of a seven-day remand that police sought yesterday.
Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station said three people including the duo forcibly picked up the 15-year girl, who was on a date with her boyfriend at the hilly CRB premises in the city, atop a hillock in the area at around 1:00pm.
Taking the teenager in their captivity, the trio asked the victim’s boyfriend to bring Tk 10,000 as ransom and duly the latter left the scene, and brought some of his friends there. But, in the meantime, Islmail and Mamun raped her.
Though the boyfriend and his fellows caught the accused red handed while the other managed to escape the scene, added the OC.
The mob delayed in handing over the two alleged rapists to law enforcers as locals tried to save them by negotiation between the victim’s family and the accused.
A case was lodged in this connection yesterday morning.
