RAB raids Khulna hospital, fines Tk10 lakh

A joint team of RAB 1 and 6 raided Gazi Medical College Hospital in Khulna city on Wednesday afternoon. RAB 1 Magistrate Firoz Ahmed and RAB 6 ASP Enayet Mannan led the team in the raid. Magistrate Firoz told the Dhaka Tribune: “We conducted the joint operation in the hospital on charges of medical malpractice. We have identified five people who are involved in the irregularities at the hospital.” He said they found 23 bags of expired blood, and re-agents past the expiration date which were being used in pathological tests. Pathology supervisor Dr SM Khaliduzzaman said that he only signs off on the papers. He said that his assistants carry out most of the work. Owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman claimed that he was trying to run a clean, decent hospital and only the lack of fidelity among a number of employees have caused certain irregularities to take place. The magistrate added that if the hospital defaulted on the fines, Owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman will serve the three month sentence along with Dr Subhash Kumar Saha, director, Dr Abm Mahabubul Hoque, assistant director, Dr James T Sarkar, lab-in-charge, and Baharul Islam, technologist.
