3 punished for producing unhygienic food, fake cosmetics

A mobile court yesterday sealed off three factories in Old Dhaka for making substandard food and cosmetic products.

Three people were sent to jail and fined by the mobile court conducted by elite force Rapid Action Battalion from 9:30pm to 3pm. The drive in Champatoli, Swarighat and Chhoto Katara areas was led by Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha.

Manager of a factory Md Abdul Hye, 22, was jailed for a year and fined Tk1 lakh for producing, preserving and selling unhygienic foods and labelling them with names of renowned companies, said a press release issued by RAB.

Owners of two other factories Kazi Sumon, 24, and Mohammad Hossain, 32, were given the same punishment. They both were sentenced to jail for the same offence last year.

Hossain was jailed for producing fake cosmetics using dangerous chemicals. He had been running the factory for the last 12 years which produced hair oil using eatable oil, colours, perfume and paraffin.

In his statement, Hossain said he did not allow his family members to use the hair oil since a user might lose hair.
