Tk20 lakh fake drugs seized in capital

A mobile court has busted a fake medicine factory and sized adulterated medicines worth Tk20 lakh from Topkhana Road in the capital’s Purana Paltan area on Wednesday.

The court also jailed the owner, Amirul Ehsan, of the fake medicine factory for two years and fined him Tk200,000.

In supports with the personnel from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 2), Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha operated the mobile court in presence of the personnel from the Drugs Administrations.

Ehsan, 38, who was an official of a medicine factory, had been running the illicit business at his own house since last three-and-a-half-years.

While talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Magistrate Anwar Pasha said: “During the drive, the mobile court found various antibiotic medicines, which he had been manufacturing at his own factory. However, he sold those by sticking labels of reputed medicine companies.”

“The convict has been sent to jail and the seized medicines have been destroyed,” the magistrate said.
