Custom officials have held a man with 28 gold bars weighing around 3.5kg at Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday morning.
The price of the gold bars is around Tk1.4 crore, Chittagong Customs Assistant Commissioner Moshiur Rahman Mondal has told the Dhaka Tribune.
The detainee was identified as Md Nizam, 29, hailed from Rawzan upazila of Chittagong.
The gold bars have been recovered from the luggage of Nizam who returned home from Dubai on June 30.
Mondal said: "The customs officials seized the luggage of a passenger of the Bangladesh Biman flight. After examining the luggage in the morning, the authorities recovered the bars from the luggage of Nizam."
Before starting examining, Nizam was called to present and after finding the gold bars he was held, the official said.
The bars will be sent to Bangladesh Bank, he added.
A case will be filed in this connection with Potenga police station.
