36 criminals are under watch in Narayanganj!

Different intelligence agencies have identified some notorious people who might resort to violence during the Narayanganj-5 by-polls scheduled to be held on Thursday.

All of them are criminals listed under police and RAB watch-lists and many of them are not voters of the constituency.

The list was sent to the Home Ministry and to different law enforcement agencies so that they can be watched, said sources.

Mohid Uddin Khandker, superintendent of Narayanganj police, said they had already put a five-tier security system in place for a peaceful poll.

“A total of 4000 officials, including police and ansar, will be deployed to fend off any kind of unwanted situation. No one is beyond our suspicion and we are keeping an eye on every person in the area to ensure foolproof security,” he said.

Lt Col Anwar Latif Khan, commanding officer of RAB-11, told the Dhaka Tribune that they had started election duty on June 21 and around 1000 officials of the elite force are working to ensure the people’s safety during the election.

“We have formed groups who will be deployed in every union,” he said adding that each group will comprise three-to-six patrol teams.

When asked if the elite force will keep an eye on any specific person or group he said: “Normally during elections, some people try to create anarchy. We are aware of them and if anyone tries to do so, stern action will be taken.”
