Armed muggers have looted around Tk27 lakh from an accountant of a private medical college at gunpoint in front of a bank in capital’s Satmasjid Road in Mohammadpdpur.
The incident took place while he had been on way to deposit the money to a branch of Sonali Bank in Dhanmondi, Ruhul Amin, the accountant of Bangladesh Medical College told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “A gang of armed criminals made off with the Tk26.54 lakh at gun point at Satmasjid Road around 2pm while he had been on way to deposit the money to a branch of Sonali Bank in Dhanmondi.”
Inspector Sheikh Abu Saleh Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi police station, said the armed muggers riding on motorbikes intercepted the accountant of the Bangladesh Medical College and later snatched away the money from him pointing firearms at him.
The criminals also fled off the scene by their vehicles before the people reach the spot, the OC said.
The authorities of the Bangladesh Medical College filed a case accusing unknown criminals in this connection, he added.
Maruf Hossain Sarder, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ramna Division, said they were verifying the matter to find out the criminals active behind the scene.
He said none was arrested in this connection, but they were trying to find out the gangsters.
Mugging incidents have turned rampant in capital as a number of criminals are active in snatching money from the people on their ways to different banks for depositing money while some other gangs are found active in snatching money from the agents of Bkash.
