The prime accused in Porag abduction case has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in South Keraniganj area in Dhaka.
The deceased is Moktar Hossain alias Lengra Moktar.
South Keraniganj police station Office-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam said: “Moktar was arrested from Bagerhat.
“Based on his information, we took him along with us and conducted a drive in Meererbagh area in South Keraniganj to recover arms around 1:45am on Tuesday.”
He said: “Moktar’s associates opened fire targeting us and tried to snatch him away.”
In retaliation, police fired back that left Moktar injured while his associates fled the scene.
Later, he was declared dead when taken to Mitford Hospital.
The OC said Moktar was also accused in 14 other cases including murder.
Six-year-old Porag was abducted by unknown assailants in front of their residence in South Keraniganj in November 2014.
The Assailants also shot three people, including Porag’s mother and sister, during the abduction.
Parag was rescued from Ati Bazar after the abductors left him there hours after his father sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's intervention regarding the matter.
