A rickshaw-van puller was allegedly killed by his wife in Chittagong city’s CRB Jamtola shanty area early yesterday.
Police said the rickshaw-van puller Mohammad Sujon was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) by his wife Sofia Khatun and father-in-law, claiming that he had committed suicide. However, the victim’s family accused Sofia of killing Sujon.
Assistant Commissioner Shah Mohammad Abdu Rouf of Chittagong Metropolitan PoliceKotwali Circle said they had detained Sofia for interrogation after allegations against her were made by the victim’s family.
Quoting Sofia, the official said Sujonhad stabbed himself around 3:30am during an altercation with Sofia when she denied giving money to her addicted husband for purchasing drugs.
Later, Sujon was rushed to CMCH where the duty doctorsdeclared him dead, said Sub-Inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH Police Outpost.
The assistant commissioner said the victim’s family members claimed that Sujon was killed by Sofia over family dispute as she washis second wife.The first wife and children were in Chandpur, he added.
The officialsaid they were investigating into the matter and case was being prepared in this connection.
