A Dhaka court sent 12 accused to jail yesterday rejecting their bail petition in a case of triple murder in the post-parliamentary election violence in Dohar.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Afroja Sheuly has passed the order when the accused surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.
Earlier, the High court had granted bail to the 12 accused in the case after their lawyer filed bail petetion before the court.
Sheuly Akhter Khan, the defence counsel, filed bail petition for the accused, but the court denied the bail petition after hearing.
Anowarul Kabir Babul, additional public prosecutor of this court, had opposed their bail plea.
On March 24, the same court sent another 13 accused to jail rejecting their bail petition.
On March 4, DB Sub-Inspector Abu Bakar Siddik submitted a charge sheet before the court against 60 people in the case. The charge sheet, however, had 56 names on it.
The 12 accused are: Haji Mohan Chokder, Shorfan Shiekh, Salim Chokder (1), Liton Chokder, Md Shohel, Bisha Chokder, Kamal Chokder, Uddu Chokder, Sheikh Ali Matbar, Salim Chokder (2), Khokon Bayitee and Tota Chokder.
On January 6, Murshed Khandakar, 50, his son Masud Khandakar, 28, and Makbul Munshi, 36, were killed in post-election violence between the followers of Salma Islam, candidate for HM Ershad’s Jatiya Party, and Abdul Mannan Khan, Awami League leader and former state minister, in Bigha village under Bilaspur union in Dohar.
