‘Husband rented new flat for killing wife’

Police investigation says Abul Hasan Liton, who allegedly killed his wife, rented the new flat after planning to kill her.

Earlier on Friday night, the Pahartoli police recovered the decomposed body of Nasima Akhter in a plastic drum kept in the kitchen of their newly rented flat in the port city’s Greenview Residential Area.

Sub-Inspector Abu Salek of Pahartoli police station said Liton had feud with the victim over family issues that instigated him to kill his wife.

There was no mentionable bruise found in the body, and the SI added that Liton fled after killing her.

Police assumed that the victim was forcibly put into the drum and as a result she was strangulated to death at least three days back.

Mohammad Ismail, owner of the building, said Liton rented the flat on March 25 and got into the flat along with his son and wife on March 26.

“Liton went out taking his son on April 1. The neighbours got bad smell on Friday night and informed the police,” he added.

SI Fazlur Rahman, second officer of the Pahartoli police station, said police nabbed gatekeeper Shamsul of the building for interrogation in this regard.

A case was lodged in this connection.
