3kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

The gold bars, wrapped in black tape, were found abandoned in a garbage basket at a toilet adjacent to the immigration on Monday morning. Customs Intelligence Director General Mainul Khan confirmed the gold haul. In a Facebook post, the Customs Intelligence said the seized gold has an estimated market value of Tk1.5 crore. Officials said they were trying to identify the suspect from surveillance footage. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Customs Intelligence took position at the airport at 5am. They found the gold after an hour of searching. Three international flights from Kuala Lumpur, Doha and Qatar landed at around the same time. It is still unclear on which flight the smuggler had come. The gold will be handed over to the Bangladesh Bank after formalities, customs officials said.
