At least 12 persons, including a UP chairman were sent to jail by a court in Barguna district yesterday following a case of misappropriated VGD-rice.
The convicts were identified as Chairman Azizul Huq, Secretary Anawarul Islam, Rani Begum, Jahanara Begum, Bari Azad Swapan, Enamul Huq, Abu Hena Mustafa Zamal Milton, Ali Hossain Darji, Harunor Rashid, Afzal Hossain, Wazed Ali Khan, Obaidul Huq, members of Dhalua union parishad of Barguna Sadar upazila.
Nazrul Islam, judge of the district special court, passed the order.
According to sources, the accused UP men distributed 22/23kg rice under VGD programme for per distressed woman in the union where the government allotted 30 kg.
One of the stakeholder lodged a case in this connection with the court on August 28, 2012 against the accused.
The court asked Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the allegation . Ahsan Ali, deputy director of ACC, submitted final report on December 18, 2012 ,accusing them. The accused filed Naraji (no-confidence) against the final report of the ACC.
