Mobile court seal off a fake cancer hospital

A fake cancer hospital has been sealed off by National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) and Directorate of Health.

A mobile court on Wednesday busted ‘Doctors Chamber’, a hospital run by some doctors in front of NICRH at Mohakhali in the capital.

The court also sentenced two employees to two years of imprisonment with fines of Tk 2 lakh each and in default jails for three more months.

The convicts, Beauty Begum, 38, and Shahadat Hossain, 24, were sent to jail while a total of 12 patients, who had been undergoing treatment at the hospital, were admitted to the NICRH.

Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, who led the mobile court, told the Dhaka Tribune: “During the primary interrogation, convict Shahadat and Beauty admitted that they have association with some unscrupulous doctors of the NICRH. The alleged employees and officials of the Health Directorate’ were also involved with the hospital.”

The magistrate said during the drive they found Beauty Begum had been applying chemotherapy to the patients despite she had no training or expertise.
