A Union Parishad chairman of Barisal has been detained in the capital along with eight others accused for being involved in cheating people.
Batamara Chairman Mohammad Muhasin Reza, 48, and the others were held from Kochukhet area on Saturday night with a pistol, four bullets and 250 Yabba tablets, RAB officials said.
He is the leader of a gang that has been cheating people in land purchases and sales for the last eight years, RAB wing commander ATM Habibur Rahman said.
Muhasin eyes high-ranking individuals as his target, the RAB official said.
“The racket has been active at different places of the capital and they have impersonated multiple identities for their various engagements.”
The eight others held are Md Jasim Uddin, Kali Mrridha, 48, Shaon Hawlader, 20, Azizul Huq, 30, Sajnay Saha, 44, Liton Munsi, 44, Mohammad Swapan, 30, and Manik Khandaker, 40.
