Locals brought out procession yesterday morning in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi protesting an incident of gang rape happened on Thursday night in the area. Police arrested four suspects in this connection.
Police said a housewife, dweller of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi, was returning from Ishwardi of Pabna riding a machine-run three wheeler on Thursday evening. The male passengers, in association with driver, allegedly raped the housewife on her way, about 500 meter away.
Later, the housewife took shelter at the house of Altaf Hossain, resident of Ramchandrapur village under Charghat upazila of the district and described the incident to him.
Altaf Hossain then called the victim’s brother and helped them report to Charghat police station. The brother of the victim filed a case with the station yesterday morning accusing the passengers of the vehicles.
Police said they had raided some nearby villages and arrested Arif, Milon, Bulla and Mohammod Ali as suspects. Later police produced them before the court and the court sent them to jail.
