JaPa activists prevent tender submissions

Local hoodlums backed by Jatiya Party (JaPa) prevented people from submitting tender bids for purchasing positions of 47 shops at Rahmat Ullah Muslim Institute at Narayanganj town.

Witnesses said local JaPa activists, led by former organising secretary of Jatiya Party Narayanganj Zilla Committee Sanaullah, took position at the Deputy Commissioners office from the morning and started searching all the people, who came to the office to submit tenders.

According to the pre-schedule, the managing committee of the institute was supposed to receive tenders from 11am to 2pm at the DC office.

Then supporters of Sanaullah snatched tenders from bidders saying they would take decision over the tender issue in the evening as local lawmaker Nasim Osman had instructed them to work together.

General Secretary of the institute’s managing committee MA Asgar said they had published notices at two newspapers last month.

“We has sold nine tender schedules in between January 30 to February 17 and asked interested people to submit tenders at the DC office on February 18.”

However, there were no tender boxes found on the institute premises and the organisers has published the notices only at the local newspapers, which even do not have any mention on the minimum price of the tender.

Asked, Asgar said: “Usually we keep a tender box on our institute premises, but following DC office’s instruction, we have sent the box at the DC office. Two tender boxes were kept at the room of additional DC.”

While opening the tender box at 3pm, Convener of tender committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahmudur Rahman Habib said no tender schedules were submitted at the box. However, he denied having information on manipulation of the tender schedule process.

The organisers said they will again call for tenders in regards to the matter.

Sanaullah said allegations brought against him was false and baseless.
