A Chittagong court yesterday sent to jail six Jubo League activists who were accused in the murder case of Humayun Kabir Murad, a local leader of the ruling party’s youth wing.
The six accused are Jubo League central committee member Ali Hossain, and activists Khokon Chandra Tati, Ziaul (alias Sohag), Md Masum, Md Suman and Saiful, said court sources.
Ahmed Sayeed, a judge of Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, gave the ruling when the six accused appeared before him following a High Court order to surrender by February 18, defence counsel Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune.
“They were on interim bail from the high court,” the advocate said.
Humayun, 35, a resident of the Railway Colony in the port city’s Tiger Pass area, was hacked to death, allegedly by members of a rival group, in Ambagan on the night of October 28. A case was filed the next day against 11 suspects with Khulshi Police Station.
On October 29, police arrested one of the accused, Aafsar Uddin Riad, 25, who later gave a confessional statement before a Chittagong court.
Four other accused in the case are on the run.
