Two officials of Rangs Group were arrested by the airport customs for their alleged attempt of evading taxes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday.
Muhaiminul Ishaq, 38, assistant manager of Rangs, and another officer Abu Hena Sabbir, 37, were handed over to airport police after a case was filed against them in connection with tax evasion.
Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of the airport police station, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The Rangs officials were trying to escape the airport with 48 mobile sets, which were imported through the airport, without paying taxes worth Tk60,000.”
“The Rangs authorities told us that although the company had provided them with the amount, the two officials were trying to misappropriate the money by evading taxes,” the OC said.
Airport sources said the Rangs officials were handed over to the police last night after Customs Inspector Mohammad Mostofa filed a case against them in this connection.
The case statement says the Rangs officials were arrested with 48 mobile sets worth Tk14.4 lakh without paying taxes.
The customs official also mentioned that Tk60,000 in cash, equivalent to the tax amount, was also recovered from their possession.
The OC also confirmed that the amount which was seized from the possessions of the Rangs officials was provided by the Rangs authorities.
“The detainees will be produced before the court tomorrow [today] seeking remand order against them for interrogation,” the OC added.
