Three workers at a ship-breaking yard in Sitakunda upazila, Chittagong, survived severe burn-related injuries yesterday while trying to douse the flames on a scrap ship that had caught fire.
The injured are Tapan Jaladas, 30, Mohammad Lalu, 19, and Mohammad Riad, 20. The workers sustained injuries trying to douse the fire, which originated from a tank in one of the yard’s scrap ships sometime around 9am, said Iftekhar Hasan, the officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station.
The injured were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition, he said. The three injured are workers of Kabir Steel, a ship-breaking yard in the same area, according to the police. Police had visited the spot and had been investigating into the matter, said the OC.
