Police lodged a case yesterday against 3,000 people mentioning names of 41 persons in connection with the attack on lawmaker Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir’s motorcade.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Samsul Islam of Kachua police station lodged the case in the morning.
Meanwhile, the local Awami League organsied a protest rally in the afternoon in front of the Ujani madrassah.
Activists of the Jamaat-Shibir attacked the lawmaker while he was attending a Waz Mahfil at Uzani Madrassa in the district.
Locals said some activists of Jamaat, Hefazat and BNP in the guise of devotees hurled abuses and bricks at the former home minister.
They also vandalised three vehicles, including the one for the lawmaker.
Mahfil Director Maulana Abdur Rahman, also education secretary of the madrasa, allegedly urged the assailants over microphone to restrain from going berserk, but they did not pay heed to it.
They also tried to bring in more people on the premises in their favour, chanting Jamaat-e-Islami slogans.
Police then fired 13 rounds of blank shots to take control of the situation.
