Child killer arrested in Rajshahi

Police have arrested a man sentenced to death for killing a six-year-old in Natore. He was nabbed from the Bagha bus station area in Rajshahi Friday morning, Abu Obayed, officer-in-charge of Natore's Lalpur police station said. β€œThe arrestee Shaharul Islam, 30, is a death row convict,” he said, adding that Bagha police assisted them in the capture. Shaharul was convicted of murdering Mosaddika Khatun alias Mukti, at Roghunathpur village of Lalpur upazila. Police produced him before a Natore court at noon. Shaharul, who hailed from Roghunathpur village, strangled Mukti to snatch her ear rings on November 6, 2007. He hid the girl's body in a pit inside his room before going into hiding. Police recovered Mukti's body from Shaharul's room on the day. The victim's father Mokarram accused Shaharul and his parents in a murder case. Shaharul's father died before the verdict. A Natore court tried him in absentia and found him guilty of murder. It sentenced him to death on March 9 this year and cleared his mother of the charges.
