The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel arrested 20 youths while they were trying to fly abroad illegally with fake passports and visas through the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday night.
Of them, 12 were arrested at around 9:00pm for trying to fly for different countries with fake machine readable passports (MRP) and other 8 for trying to fly for Italy with fake MRP visas.
The arrestees were identified as Md Russell Ahmed, Monoranjan Dey of Narsinghdi, Raihan Ahmmed, Zabed Ahmmed, Md Sharif of Sylhet, Nasir Miah, Kabir Ahmmed, Khorshed Alam Ripon of Brahmanbaria, Altab Hossain of Chandpur, Noman Sarkar of Comilla, Md Imran of Kishoreganj, Imran Khan of Chandpur, Md Billal Hossain of Chandpur, Md Moyeen of Bhola, Jonaid Mohammad of Narsinghdi, Altab Sarder and Azizul Khan of Madaripur, Parvej Hossain of Khulna and Zaber Ahmed of Sylhet.
Alamgir Hossain Shimul, Assistant Superintendent of Police at the APBn, said the fake passports had been issued by two officials of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines –Redwanul Islam and Jasim Uddin—while their tickets were issued by the office of air concern.
