Minu, RCC Mayor Bulbul sued for police death

Some 350-400 leaders and activists from main opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance were sued for acrude bomb attack that killed a police constable and injured seven others in Rajshahi cityon Thursday morning.

Among those sued were BNP Joint Secretary General Mizanur Rahman Minu, Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and BNP general secretary of Rajshahi district unit Nadim Mostafa.

Boalia Thana SI Rafiqul Islam filed two cases with the Thana on Thursday night.

One case was lodged for murder while another for the use of explosives, the SI told the Dhaka Tribune.

In each of the cases, 86 persons were named while the rest remained anonymous, he added.

In the meantime, police have arrested 23 persons till early on Friday for their alleged involvement in the crude bomb blast incident.

Constable Siddhartha Roy, 25, died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around 9:20pm, hours after he was flown there by helicopter.

The victim hailed form Kawniaupazila of the Rangpur district. His wife Dipti Sarker is also a police constable for the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

The handmade bomb hit Siddhartha in the lung, leaving him critically injured, said Shahin Ahmed, assistant commissioner of Boalia zone under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police last night.

The other injured policemen were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, with two of them entering intensive care.

The team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police came under attack when a convoy of police was patrolling infront of Loknath High School in the Sonadighi area of the city around 12:30pm, said Ziaur Rahman Zia, officer-in-charge of Boalia police station.

The opposition men made the attack to avenge the detention of 20 activists from the BNP, Jamaat and their student wing, Islami ChhatraShibir, he claimed.
