A man killed his cousin over smoking in Sachkipara village, Haziganj upazila in Chandpur on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was one Munaf Kha, 42.
Locals said the victim was seen smoking in front of a shop nearby his house when his younger cousin Mizanur Rahman advised him to stop, triggering a tussle between.
At a certain stage of the altercation, Mizan started physically assaulting Munaf and pushed him into a roadside ditch.
Locals later recovered him from the ditch but he died on his way to a local hospital.
Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Haziganj thana told the Dhaka Tribune that on information, police rushed to the spot and extracted for autopsy.
The OC said: “Munaf was a patient of heart disease and a ring had been set up in his heart.”
Momena Begum, wife of Munaf, claimed: “Mizan has killed my husband, I demand his punishment.”
