Bangladeshi woman, ex-partner found dead in Sydney

Tasmin Bahar, who went to Australia in 2009, had recently got separated with Dave Pillay, her partner for six years. Several weeks ago, she left the house they shared in Smithfield with their three-year old daughter. As Tasmin, 35, agreed that her daughter should share part of the Father’s Day with her father, she went to the house in Smithfield on Sunday along with her daughter, says her family. Just after 12.30pm that day, the bodies of Tasnim and Pillay were discovered inside the bathroom of the house, in what Homicide Squad detectives are treating as a possible murder-suicide. Their daughter was found sleeping in the house and was not harmed. "[Tasmin] was perfectly fine when I talked to her two days ago," Tasnim’s sister Sharagin Bahar said from New York. "I am so lost. I just want to take my niece into my custody, I want her with me. I'll take care of her. I'll do whatever is best for her," said Sharagin. Sharagin said her sister had been in a relationship with Pillay for about six years and her sister had told her that the man had previously threatened her and their daughter of physical abuse. Tasmin also told her that she had filed a report with police in connection with the threat, Sharagin said. "We told her not to go [to the Smithfield house] ... but she went for Father's Day," Sharagin said. Tasmin’s cousin, Sifat Sharmin Ruponty, said her cousin moved to Australia in 2009 and was highly educated, having studied science at university.
