Three government officials shot in Rangamati

Rangamati district administration Public Surveyors Bassu Moni Chakma and Ripan Chakma, and speedboat driver Nasir, were shot in Kattali under Longadu Upazila in the district yesterday.

Police said four members of the district administration office, lead by Additional Deputy Magistrate Shaiful Islam, went to Amtali union under Baghaichari upazila to demarcate the boundaries of Amtali union, adding that they were shot by unknown miscreants on their way back.

At another incident, miscreants opened fire on 10 leaders and activists, including Udayan Tripura, Subarna Chakma and Podang Tang Randal, members of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS). However, no one was reported injured in the incident.

PCJSS members were coming back from Baghaichari and Longudu Upazila after attending a demonstration about the implementation of the CHT accord, sources said.

Sajeeb Chakma, assistant press and publication secretary of the PCJS, blamed the United Peoples’ Democratic Front for the incident.

When contacted the UPDF denied their involvement in the incident.
