Rab official hit by police car on way to hospital

A Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) official sustained injuries in collision with a police car at the capital’s Bijoy Sharani area yesterday. Assistant Sub-inspector Al Bap Billah, 30, was part of the fifth field unit of Rab based in Joypurhat and came to Dhaka a few days ago.

Md Faruque, his maternal uncle, said Billah had been suffering from fever for the past two weeks and had come to Dhaka for treatment following a referral from his doctor at Joypurhat.

He was admitted to the Rajarbagh Police Hospital where doctors advised him to have an MRI scan at the Suhrawardy hospital, Faruque added. Billah was hit by an unidentified police car from behind as he was headed for the hospital sometime around 4:10pm.

“It all happened so quickly that I couldn’t recognise the identity of the police station that the car belonged to,” Billah said, sitting on his bed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

DMCH doctors confirmed that Billah had sustained injuries on his chin, head and legs but he was out of immediate danger.
