Customs officials seized 75 gold bars from a man at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday morning.
Officials said the gold was seized from the hand luggage of Jamal Uddin, 24, who landed in Chittagong from a Dubai flight at 10:30am.
The man was searched upon a tip-off, Chittagong customs Assistant Commissioner Moshiur Rahman Mondal said.
The gold bars, weighing 10 tolas each, might have been on the way to Dhaka. The official could not estimate the price of the gold in initial reports.
Incidents of gold being seized at airports have occurred frequently of late.
On November 17, 2.2kg of gold was seized from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Four days earlier, 320 gold bars were seized from the same airport.
