Parents hold press conference against drug addicted son

Bringing allegation of atrocities against their son and an assistant sub-inspector of Mathbaria police station, a couple hold a press conference at Barisal Reporter’s Unity on Saturday.

Parents of three, Nur Hossain and Roshan Ara Begum brought the allegation against their eldest son Ilias Hossain, 31, stating that he got addicted to drugs long ago and since then had been torturing them and damaging and stealing valuables from home.

At least 11 general diaries and a case have been lodged against Ilias with Mathbaria police station, but as he was a driver of a rented car of police, law enforcers always favoured him and took no steps to check his violent activities.

Ilias had close liaison with Assistant Sub-Inspector Omar Ali of Mathbaria police station, they claimed.

They alleged that Omar had been harassing them as they refused to marry off their daughter with him who was already married.

The duo said they had complained to the Superintendent of Police on September 29, 2013.

However, they did not get any assurance of protection of life and properties from the law enforcers, they alleged.

They urged the law enforcement authorities to take steps to ensure safety for them.

Denying all the allegations, ASI Omar said police had inquired Ilias after filing of the general diaries. However, Illias got a bail from the higher court in the case filed against him, therefore, they had nothing to do now in this regard.

Miraz Hossain, Ilias’s younger brother, read out a statement that said they were an extremely poor family, earning livelihood through agricultural activities in Pathakatha village under Matbaria upazila of Pirojpur.
