Police constable among 3 detained over drug use in Sreepur

Three people, including a police constable, have been detained in Sreepur, Gazipur, on allegations of drug use, while police have recovered 120 yaba pills from a rented house.

The detainees were sent to jail through a court on Saturday afternoon, Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed.

The detainees are Constable Sarwar Morshed, 38, of the Traffic (North) Division of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP); Sobuj Mia, 32, son of Mojibur Rahman of Keowa area in Sreepur municipality; and Jahangir Alam, 38, son of Abdul Kader of Bishnupur village in Rangpur’s Kaunia upazila. Jahangir was living in a rented house owned by Mosharaf in the Keowa Purbo Khanda area of Sreepur municipality.

Locals detained the three at a house near Keowa Bazar around 11:30pm on Friday and handed them over to police.
Residents said Jahangir had rented the house about a month ago. They grew suspicious after noticing frequent visits by people suspected of using drugs.

On Friday night, locals caught the constable and another man allegedly consuming drugs and alerted police. Officers later raided Jahangir’s rented house and recovered 120 yaba pills hidden in different places inside.

OC Shahinur Alam said locals had initially detained two people, including the constable, while they were allegedly consuming drugs. Police later took custody of all three.

He said Sarwar’s identity as a police constable had been confirmed. A case was filed against all three under the Narcotics Control Act in connection with the recovery of the yaba pills.
