Twenty crude bombs and petrol bombs have been recovered from the former Trade Fair ground beside the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center in the capital.
Additional DIG Naimul Hasan, commander of SRB-2, confirmed the matter. Earlier on Monday evening, members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB) recovered the explosives.
The SRB said, that on Monday evening, 20 unexploded crude bombs and petrol bombs were recovered from the former Trade Fair ground. The law enforcement authorities also said that necessary measures were being taken to neutralize the recovered explosives.
Naimul Hasan said, that the explosives were recovered during an operation at the former Trade Fair ground based on confidential information. A bomb disposal unit was called in to neutralize the explosives, and the team was working at the scene.
It was not immediately known how the explosives came to be there or who was involved.
SRB Squadron Leader Nifaz Rahman said, “Our team reached the scene and began working. Several bombs were found inside a bag. The bomb disposal unit has already arrived and neutralized some of them. There are some more, which will be taken outside the public area and neutralized later. Approximately 20 crude bombs and petrol bombs were found here.”
Law enforcement personnel at the scene have cordoned off the entire area. Movement of members of the public is also being restricted for security reasons.
