An office in Mohammadpur’s Chand Uddan Housing area was allegedly vandalized and looted on Saturday morning amid an alleged attempt to seize the property.
Zainal Abedin filed a written complaint with police, saying the incident took place at around 10am at the Mohammadpur Twin Tower office in the Beribadh area.
In the complaint, Zainal said 100 to 150 unidentified people illegally entered the office on the 2nd floor by breaking the door, lock and windows. They allegedly searched different rooms and the storeroom before loading Tk15 lakh in cash, 5 laptops, 2 air conditioners, 3 CCTV cameras, office furniture and other equipment onto a truck and taking them away.
He further alleged that Md Mostaqur Rahman Khokon Chowdhury, 62, along with Mahin, Prince and Alamin, had been conspiring for some time to seize the office with the help of local individuals.
According to the complaint, the incident disrupted the office’s normal operations and resulted in financial and administrative losses, while important official documents and information were also at risk of being lost.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) for Tejgaon Zone Md Jewel Rana said an unwanted incident occurred on land adjacent to Rose Villa in Chand Uddan, west of Beribadh.
He said Alam had been in possession of the land for a long time. During the incident, around 150 to 200 people, led by Jony and Rezaul, allegedly entered the land, broke down the tin fencing, vandalized the office and attempted to seize the land by installing new tin fencing around its boundary.
Jewel Rana also said both parties claimed to have documents supporting their ownership of the land.
