Detectives have arrested a former leader of banded Chhatra League in connection with a crude bomb blast in front of the Supreme Court’s main gate.
The arrestee is Md Salman Islam Sakib alias Asif, 23, former joint general secretary of Motijheel thana unit of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
DB personnel conducted a drive in Motijheel area on Sunday and arrested Salman, said Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.
According to DB Ramna division, two people arrived on a motorcycle in front of the Supreme Court’s main gate around 1:15pm on September 15 and exploded a crude bomb with the intention of carrying out sabotage and creating panic among people before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, a DB Ramna team began an investigation to identify those involved through information technology and intelligence data.
The motorcycle used in the incident was also seized from Salman, said police.
Based on information obtained during his initial interrogation, DB personnel conducted another drive at Hazaribagh Beribadh at around 2:30am on early Monday and recovered four bomb-like objects, Niaz Mehedi said.
A case has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station over the incident.
