Police have detained two more people in connection with the murder of school student Ishayat Shahriar, alias Opritom, in Comilla, taking the total number of detainees to three.
The latest detainees were detained around 7pm and 7:30pm on Saturday, respectively. The first one was whodetained around 3:30pm, was the first to be taken into custody.
Comilla Sadar South police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rakibul Islam confirmed the detentions to the media.
Tuhin was detained after CCTV footage showed him with Opritom in the Comilla University campus area, police said. The footage showed the two together for about an hour.
“Tuhin, Anas and Fahim have been detained for questioning as suspects. Our operation is ongoing,” OC Mohammad Rakibul Islam said.
Opritom, son of Comilla University Bangla department teacher Nahida Begum, went missing around 3pm on Friday after leaving home with his mother’s mobile phone to take photographs.
Following his disappearance, family members, teachers and students of Comilla University, along with police, searched for him in different areas.
After about 21 hours of searching, Opritom’s body was recovered on Saturday afternoon.
Police subsequently launched an investigation into the death. The CCTV footage showing Opritom with Tuhin later emerged during the investigation, leading to his detention and subsequently the detention of two more suspects.
