Crude bomb explosions were reported in Jatrabari, Malibagh, Agargaon and Mohakhali areas of Dhaka on Friday, leaving at least one person injured.
The explosions occurred at intervals between the afternoon and around 8pm.
The latest incident took place at Jatrabari intersection around 7:45pm, when five crude bombs exploded in quick succession. A pedestrian was injured in the blasts and taken to hospital.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahmed Raju confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune, saying miscreants detonated several crude bombs in succession. Police were trying to determine the identity of the injured man.
Earlier in the evening, two crude bombs exploded at Mohakhali’s Amtoli intersection. Banani Police Station Inspector (Operations) AKM Mohin Uddin said the crude bombs were thrown from the Mohakhali Flyover. No casualties were reported.
Around the same time, another crude bomb exploded on the road near the Bangladesh Betar building in Agargaon.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station OC Monirul Islam said police heard the sound of an explosion but found no evidence of a crude bomb or bomb blast at the scene.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the affected areas and nearby locations to identify those responsible.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, two crude bombs were thrown from Malibagh Flyover onto the main road near the Malibagh Rail Gate under Shahjahanpur Police Station. The crude bombs exploded on the road, but no one was injured.
Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Md Amirul Islam said police were conducting checkpoint operations on the road when the two crude bombs were thrown in quick succession.
He said CCTV footage from the area was being collected and analysed to identify those involved. Legal action is also being initiated.
On Tuesday night, three crude bombs exploded in the Dhaka University area. Two exploded near the Jagannath Hall gate, followed by another at TSC.
Earlier that day, a crude bomb was also detonated near the Supreme Court after the verdict in a crimes-against-humanity case linked to the July uprising was announced.
Seven people, including banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and former state minister Mohammad Ali Arafat, were sentenced to death in the case.
