A suspected robber was killed yesterday after a mob swooped on a group that had allegedly raided a house in Rajabari village in Konabari, Gazipur, and beat up four members of the same family.
Abdul Malek, 42-year-old son of Abdul Jalil from Mauchak area under Kaliakoir upazila of the district, was allegedly among a group of up to 13 robbers carrying lethal weapons that attacked the home of Tofazzal Hossain, a cement trader, in the Rajabari area of Konabari in Gazipur at around 2am on Monday.
Tofazzal, his wife Parvin Begum, and their two sons Parvez and Palash, were attacked by the robbers, who fled with Tk250,000 in cash and almost 82g in gold ornaments. Sub-inspector Md Rabiul Islam of Konabari police outpost said the group entered the house of Tofazzal via the rooftop.
“They beat up the house owner, his wife and their two sons before robbing the cash and gold,” he said.
However, as the group was running away, people from the locality gave chase and managed to catch one of the members, who was beaten and later handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, officer-in-charge at Joydebpur police station SM Kamruzzaman claimed the incident was theft not robbery.
The injured family members were given treatment at nearby clinic.
