A woman was shot allegedly by her husband at their home in the capital’s Darussalam area on Saturday evening, following an argument, with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) later arresting three people in connection with the incident.
The arrested are Md Abdul Mannan alias Abdul Hannan, 45, the woman’s husband, Md Rakib, 25, and Md Hatem Mia, 21.
The woman was shot at their home in the Matborbari Mosque Lane area under Darussalam police station, according to RAB. She was initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. She is currently undergoing treatment there.
RAB-4 said its team visited the scene after the shooting and began an investigation. The three suspects were arrested during a raid in the Darussalam area early Sunday.
RAB said it recovered a foreign-made firearm, a magazine, two rounds of live ammunition and 215 yaba pills from their possession.
According to RAB, Mannan returned home under the influence of drugs on Saturday evening and got into an argument with his wife. At one point, he allegedly shot her with a pistol, seriously injuring her.
After the incident, Mannan allegedly had the firearm taken to the home of his friend Hatem Mia through his son Rakib, RAB said.
The suspects’ locations were later identified using information technology, following which RAB conducted an operation with assistance from Darussalam police, the elite force said.
RAB said Mannan is a listed drug trader and armed criminal who lived with his family as a tenant in a tin-shed house owned by a doctor named Aminul.
The elite force alleged that Mannan used the recovered firearm for drug trading, extortion, intimidation and other criminal activities in Darussalam and surrounding areas.
RAB also claimed that the three arrested suspects face multiple cases at different police stations in the capital, including cases involving drugs, snatching and extortion.
The suspects were handed over to Darussalam police station for legal action.
