AL activist killed in Jamalpur

An Awami League activist was killed in Islampur of Jamalpur district on Monday, during the second day of the opposition’s 60-hour hartal.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shahzada, 40, an activist of local unit of ruling Awami League.

Islampur Police Station Officer-in-charge Shahidur Rahman said Shahzada died in a clash between two families in Ram Bhadra village around 8am.

“He was stabbed with sharp weapons,” the OC told Dhaka Tribune.

Dispute between Dhali and Sarker families have been persisting for some time, he added. “A few others were injured in the clash.”

Including this casualty, the total number of deaths during the opposition’s 60-hour shutdown rises to seven.

Four of the casualties belonged to ruling Awami League while two each to BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
