Two men on a motorcycle allegedly stopped an autorickshaw in Pirganj, Rangpur, and snatched a gold chain from a four-year-old girl after holding a knife to her throat on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:00pm near the Pirganj Fire Station in Mokimpur area.
Shamima Akter, an assistant teacher at Mokimpur Government Primary School, said she was returning home with a colleague when the men intercepted their autorickshaw.
They allegedly held a knife to the throat of Shamima’s four-year-old daughter, Taisha Jannat, and threatened to kill her unless they handed over their valuables.
As Shamima and her colleague screamed for help, the men allegedly pulled a gold chain from the child’s neck and fled.
The chain weighed about one bhori and one ana and was worth around Tk 250,000, Shamima said.
Pirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque confirmed receiving a written complaint and said police had launched an investigation.
“Necessary legal action will be taken soon,” he said.
