Home minister warns action against law enforcers over crime inaction

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that action will be taken against members of law enforcement agencies if they fail to arrest extortionists and identified criminals.

He also ordered law enforcement agencies to swiftly bring extortionists, identified criminals and drug dealers under the law.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Saturday after visiting Professor Dr Md Asadur Rahman, head of the ENT department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), who was injured in an attack by criminals.

Salahuddin said instructions had been issued to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and law enforcement agencies in all metropolitan areas across the country to swiftly bring extortionists, identified criminals and drug dealers under the law.

He said action would also be taken against members of the relevant law enforcement agencies if they failed to take action against the accused within a reasonable time.

However, no specific deadline has been set, he said, adding that the main objective was to take swift action against those accused.
