An Indian Aadhaar card has been recovered from alleged top criminal of Chittagong, Mobarak Hossain Imon alias David Imon, Chittagong District Police Superintendent (SP) Md Masud Alam said.
The recovered card, bearing David Imon's photograph, carries the name "Azahar Khan" and lists the date of birth as May 12, 1998.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, SP Masud said Imon had planned to enter India illegally by crossing the border.
"He was supposed to reach India at 6am on Wednesday. Everything had been arranged, including who would help him cross the border and who would receive him on the Indian side. The Aadhaar card recovered from him was intended to be used after entering India. He will be questioned further about the matter," the SP said.
Imon was arrested on Wednesday during a special operation in the Jhumjhumpur area under Kotwali Police Station in Jessore, conducted with the assistance of Jessore District Police. Three others were also arrested during the operation.
According to the district police, David Imon had long been involved in criminal activities across Chittagong Metropolitan as well as the upazilas of Fatikchhari, Raozan and Rangunia.
Police said he has 13 cases filed against him at different police stations under Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Chittagong district on charges including murder, illegal arms possession, extortion and other serious offences.
Investigators have also obtained what police described as important information linking him to multiple murder cases in Chittagong Metropolitan and the Raozan and Rangunia police station areas.
