A six-year-old child was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old youth at her residence in Shibram village, Lalmonirhat sadar upazila on Sunday.
A case was lodged with the sadar police station on Tuesday in this connection.
However, police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the case.
While her parents were outside of their home in the afternoon, a neighbour, Rabiul Islam, entered the victim’s house and raped her, police said.
After hearing the young girl’s screams, locals entered the house but Rabiul managed to flee from the scene.
Finding the girl critically injured, the locals rushed her to the Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, added police.
The Residential Medical Officer (RMO) (Acting) of the hospital Dr Mrinal Kanti Roy said she was out of danger and undergoing treatment.
The Investigation-Officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Hafiz, said Rabiul was absconding and the police hope to catch him as soon as possible.
