The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fazlur Rahman over his alleged involvement in the 2012 abduction of Sukharanjan Bali from the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) premises when he came to testify as a defense witness in a crimes against humanity case against Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Friday said Fazlur was arrested from his residence in Dhaka on Thursday night.
Sukharanjan, a carpenter from village Umedpur in Zianagar upazila of Pirojpur, was a listed defense witness for Sayedee.
He alleged that law enforcement agencies picked him up on November 5, 2012, from the tribunal premises while he was being escorted by defense lawyers to testify.
Sukharanjan alleged that the abductors blindfolded him, kept him in different places, and tortured him for two months before handing him over to the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
He further alleged that he was first taken to the BSF camp at Boikari Bazar in West Bengal and later sent to Bashirhat Jail where he spent 22 days, then shifted to Dumdum Jail where he remained confined for five years.
Sukharanjan filed a complaint against 32 people, including Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with the ICT on August 21, 2025 in this connection.
