32 Chhatra League, Jubo League men arrested while preparing for flash processions

Police arrested 32 people from the Dhanmondi and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station areas in the capital on Friday while they were allegedly preparing flash processions linked to the banned organisations Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League.
 

The arrestees were leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League and Jubo League, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) NM Nasiruddin said on Friday.

“Early today, leaders and activists of the banned organisation Chhatra League were preparing for a flash procession in an area adjacent to Ful Market in front of Agargaon Metro Rail Station. After receiving information, a team from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station conducted a drive,” he said.

He added, “Sensing the presence of police, the leaders and activists tried to flee. Later, six people were arrested after a chase.”

Among the arrestees are Shyamal Chandra, 27, president of the Dhaka metropolitan south unit of Open University Chhatra League; Ayatul Haque, 29; Siam, 22; Mehedi Hasan Miyad Khan, 21; Tareq Rahman, 22; and Selim Pradhan Shrabon, 20.

In a separate drive after Jumma prayers, Dhanmondi Police conducted an operation in the Dhanmondi-32 area and arrested 26 people, including Bhanga thana Jubo League President Md Murad, while they were allegedly preparing a flash procession.
