Police have arrested three accused, including the prime suspect Md Imon alias “Baburchi Imon”, in connection with the murder of Md Rafi in Lalbagh’s Shahidnagar area of the capital.
Authorities have also recovered nine rounds of ammunition from a house in Keraniganj linked to the killing.
Police said on Thursday that Rafi was shot at close range by unidentified assailants near the entrance of Lane 3 in Shahidnagar on the night of May 14. Locals later rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with the help of his family.
He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on the morning of May 20.
Following the incident, police launched an immediate operation to arrest those involved. Acting on intelligence, officers arrested two suspects, Kana Shahabuddin and Rezaul, from different areas of the capital on May 18.
Based on information obtained from the detainees and further confidential leads, police later tracked down the prime suspect Imon. He was arrested in a raid in Cox’s Bazar Sadar on May 20.
During interrogation, Imon led investigators to a house in Keraniganj, where police recovered nine rounds of pistol ammunition allegedly used in the murder.
DMP’s Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations, NM Nasiruddin, confirmed that a total of three people directly involved in the killing have so far been arrested.
He added that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full details behind the incident.
