Two murdered in Natore, Bagerhat

Two people were murdered in separate incidents in Bagerhat and Natore districts over the last two days.

In Shikirdanga village in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat on Friday, a housewife slaughtered her husband in his sleep to draw an end to a suspected extramarital affair, before attempting suicide by taking poison.

Police said Halima Begum, 32, killed Sheikh Sirajul Islam, the 36-year-old son of Sheikh Belayet Hossain, with a kitchen knife around 6am while their son, Sohel, was attending the mosque for Fajr prayers. Their daughter, Jannatul, was sitting in their balcony.

In Natore, meanwhile, a middle-aged man was killed in an attack by a rival at Bilsa village in Gurudaspur upazila on Friday.

The deceased was Saidur Rahman, 48, son of Foyez Uddin of the village.

Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Saidur and Mainul Islam over the ownership of a piece of land. As a sequel to the enmity, Mainul beat Saidur on the Bilsa Bridge at noon and threw him into the water.
