Police have arrested Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Shafiqur Rahman, his wife Bithi, and two others in connection with allegations of torturing a minor house help
The arrests were made on Sunday night from Shafiqur’s residence in Sector 9 of Uttara in the capital.
Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Rafiq Ahmed confirmed the arrests to Dhaka Tribune, saying the case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. Shafiqur had since been sent to court.
According to police sources, the minor who had been employed at the Biman MD’s residence and was allegedly subjected to physical abuse over an extended period. The case was filed following a complaint by the victim’s family.
The two other arrestees are two other house help of the residence.
Police said further legal proceedings were underway.
