Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on Monday placed the charge sheet in Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader and former Narsingdi government college student’s union general secretary (GS) Billal Hossain Roni’s murder.
Following a two-year long investigation, CID Inspector and investigation officer of the case, SM Ali Azam Siddiquee submitted the charge sheet to the Narsingdi Chief judicial Magistrate’s court accusing at least 15 individuals, including 14 JCD leaders and activists.
The accused were identified as district unit JCD member Nazrul Islam, Jewel Mia, Junayed Ashrafi, Tarek Rashid Bhuiyan, Ariful Islam, Atiqur Rahman, Tanvirul Huda, Rafid Tanjid, Ratan Mia, Ariful Islam-2, Nasik Ahmed Ananada, Hanif Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman and Mohsin Hossain Bidyut (BNP).
CID Inspector SM Ali Azam Siddiquee said JCD leader Billal Hossain Roni was hacked and shot to death by armed JCD cadres on March 15, 2011 on the Narsingdi Government College Campus in broad daylight.
Abul Fazal Bhuiyan, elder brother of Roni filed a murder case with Narsingdi sadar thana against 16 people, including Nazrul islam, Ovi, Jewel, Mithun, Taleb, Siam, Sijan, Rijan, Kutta Bubel, Boma Ratan, Tarek, Ariful Islam, Mohsin Hossain Bidyut, Atiqur Rahman, Nasik Ahmed, and Rafid. The investigation officer found five of them, namely, Rijon, Siam, Sijon, Ovi and Rubel innocent.
He said Roni was killed as a result of previous enmity with Nazrul Islam and Rafid, who were stabbed by Roni and his accomplices on October 10, 2010.
