A garment worker was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband in their residence at Chittagong’s New Mooring area on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, Mosammat Sharmin, 19, hailed from Indrapur village in Noakhali and worked at GB Garments at CEPZ in the port city, said police sources.
She and her husband, Md Bappi, 28, who hailed from Khulna’s Khalishpur, were both workers of the garment factory. The sources added that the couple married two months ago and was living in a rented house.
Quoting family members and locals, Abul Mansur, officer-in-charge of EPZ police station, said Bappi locked the door before going out of the house on Tuesday morning.
As Sharmin was absent from the workplace, her coworkers called her mobile-phone but got no response. The coworkers later informed Sharmin’s parents, who went to the house and had to break down the door to find their daughter’s body lying on the bed, the OC said.
